Andrés Jarabo wins the VII Young designers contest of Tenerife with his collection ‘Multimateria’

María Isabel Fajardo and Roberto Caro won the second prize in this national competition organized by the Island Council at the Showground of Santa Cruz with their collection ‘419’

Tenerife- 04/16/2015. Andrés Jarabo, with his collection ‘Multimateria’, won this Thursday 16th the VII Young Designers Contest held at the showground in Santa Cruz. Another five finalists participated. After seven editions, this nationwide contest organized by the Council of Tenerife, has established itself as a platform for promoting entrepreneurial projects and new talents of the sector. Roberto Caro and María Isabel Fajardo, finished second with their proposal ‘419’

The event was attended by the President of the Council, Carlos Alonso; the Economic Vice President, Efrain Medina; and the director of Tenerife Moda, José Eugenio Sánchez Giusepe and representatives of the fashion and textile manufacturing sector, along with many representatives of local and national media sector.

Effects of light, sound, audiovisual performances and interactivity gave shape to a stage in which 34 canaries models participated, under the artistic direction of Marcos Marrero and Maria Diaz (M & M), wearing styling, hair and makeup by Franko. Also, for the first time this important contest was broadcast live on streaming for everyone through the official website of Tenerife Moda (www.tenerifemoda.com) and institutional television channel Tenerife TV , http: // canaltenerifetv.com/channels/archivo-corporativo

The jury was formed by Rubén González, photographer and fashion stylist; Lucas Balboa, designer; Juan Carlos Armas, designer; Monica Ledesma, journalist; Ricardo Cologan, manager of the Insular Crafts Company; José E. Sánchez Giusepe, director of Tenerife Moda; Juan Castañeda, stylist; Aarón Darias, football and fashion blogger; Francisco Olivas, Head of the Textile department of CIFP Las Indias; Cristina Hernández, director of the digital ‘Más que tendencias’ magazine; Samuel Cabrera, designer of Tenerife Design Festival and co-founder and director of Tenerife Design Week; Armando Pinedo, communications director for CIO-Compañía de las Islas Orientales, Isabel Mendez, Empresa Insular Crafts and Waldemar Lemanczyk  Paz, treasurer and member of Tenerife DI-CA Association of Designers and Design Companies of the Canaries.

The gala, presented by the model Veronica Blume and  Tenerife journalist Isaac Tacoronte was a novel fashion show on the catwalk, on which paraded the proposals of the five finalists in competition: María Isabel Fajardo and Robert Caro (Granada), Juan Carlos Hernández (Tenerife), Andrés Jarabo (Zaragoza), José Gabriel Muñoz (Almería) and Paloma Navarro (Almería).

In addition,  the winner of IV Young Designers Contest designer from Tenerife, Bathsheba Borcha, was in charge of putting the finishing touch to the presentation of her new collection for women titled ‘Marie Antoinette’.

Mª Isabel Fajardo and Robert Caro
‘419’ is the title of the collection that presents the Granada duo Roberto Caro and María Isabel Fajardo, who enliven the brand Tangram. A proposal inspired by eternity, rituals, nature, organic elements and architecture which is presented as the only mixed among the finalists in the competition, to be composed of twelve models, including four men. Garments with cuts released in a palette of white, black and gray, dotted with a range of pinks and oranges, made in textures like tweed, neoprene, cotton, acetate or prints created by the designers.

Juan Carlos Hernandez
Juan Carlos Hernández, from Tenerife, repeated in a contest in which already he was a finalist in its second edition. On this occasion he presents a collection called ‘Spectrum’, inspired by the dawn of the island and volcanic minerals. Female garments in a colour range that includes blue, green, red and black that intermingle on a white base with clean cuts and shapes.

From Zaragoza, Andrés Jarabo returns for a second year as a finalist in the Young Designers of Tenerife, this time with the ‘Multimateria’ collection. Formed in Fine Arts, with courses in pattern making and sewing, the proposal is based on a futuristic style that blends fiction, new technologies and reminiscences to ancient civilizations. A collection filled with ethnic touches of “modern but traditional” designs, predominantly sober and released in cold cuts and neutral colours like green, blue, gray, black and white.

José Gabriel Muñoz, from Almería, comes with a collection under the name of ‘Praxilias’, a word that symbolizes the tradition and art of knitting wool that he grew with in the family. Ancient techniques that give life to a current proposal focus on tailoring and in which the broken white mixes with cold and elegant colors. Straight cuts and volume in garments designed to create sensuality.

Paloma Navarro
The occult, magic, alchemy, spiritualism and divination enliven ‘Sensory’, a collection that aims  Paloma Navarro, from Almeria to unravel the secrets of the universe and man itself.  A very personal and architectural style studded with jewels and dark tones in garments made in tulle, neoprene, synthetic leather and hair. Refined cuts, asymmetries, transparencies and plunging necklines dress her feminine magic.

When making the selection the jury valued the originality, quality and creativity of the designs submitted and innovation and market adaptability and viability as a commercial product. In this sense, the Economic Vice-President, Efrain Medina, said that this contest goes beyond the show that involves the staging of the designs on the catwalk, because “it represents a business opportunity for these young designers, as has already been proved by the winners in the past. ”
