The Cabildo is committed to sustainable fashion as a source of wealth and strength for the Island

The socioeconomic vice-president, Efraín Medina, inaugurated in TEA Tenerife Space of the Arts a day with round tables and presentations to promote actions of economic development.

Tenerife – 11/10/2017. The socio-economic vice-president of the Cabildo, Efraín Medina, inaugurated today Friday [day 10], in TEA Tenerife Space of the Arts, a day of Sustainable Fashion that takes place with the aim of making companies and fashion entrepreneurs aware of the importance of incorporating sustainable parameters in their productions; and of a more conscious consumption by the target audience. It is part of the fourth edition of the European Week of Quality in Tenerife, which aims to promote actions that promote economic and sustainable development.

Efraín Medina, who was accompanied by the coordinator of the event, Susana Vela, said that “In the Cabildo we have been working for a long time on sustainable fashion and betting on fair trade and responsible consumption in this sector”. In this regard, he recalled “relevant actions such as the story telling contest in which children are encouraged to have responsible consumption. In the last edition the subject chosen was’ Sustainable Fashion; Who made my clothes? Ask yourself, discover and act, with the participation of 400 students. Similarly, he said that “we made an effort for the future of sustainable fashion, which is a source of wealth and strength for the island.”

In this technical conference, which is held for the first time in the European Week of Quality of Tenerife, and through presentations and round tables, it is debated and deepen on sustainable design, environmental and social impact, working conditions of people who work in the textile sector, the carbon footprint of textiles, alternative fabrics, recycling and costumization, as well as other sustainable practices. It has the coordination of the Tenerife Moda program and the Insular Center of Quality and Responsible Consumption, both of the Island Corporation.

It also includes an experiential workshop on sustainable fabrics, which will be a space to interact, through projections, exhibitions and training, of an integral learning, in which the five senses will participate. They will take place at the end of the presentations of the day.
