The Council presents the five finalists for the Young Designers of Tenerife Competition

The president, Carlos Alonso, highlighted the diversification of the event and its consolidation in the national scene.

The event will take place on April 16 at the Tenerife International Center of Conferences and Exhibitions.

Tenerife- 04/09/2015. The president of the Cabildo, Carlos Alonso, presented Thursday [9th], the gateway of the five finalists of the Tenerife Young Designers Competition to be held on April 16 at the fairgrounds in Santa Cruz. The main objective of this contest is to encourage the emergence of new values in fashion design and textile manufacturing, and encourage them so they can start their career in the field of fashion design. Therefore, this year, the Young Designers Contest Tenerife acquired a national character and a commitment to creative talent.

Carlos Alonso said: “This is an event that has been consolidated over the years and reflects the work they do every day from Tenerife Moda”. He noted that “it is a contest that is increasingly diversified across different sectors and that has become a benchmark in fashion at national level.”

The collections of the finalists will be exhibited carefully staged by a theatrical combination of light, sound, audiovisual performances and interactivity. Thus, the five selected are Andrés Jarabo Moreno (Zaragoza), with the ‘Multimateria’ collection, Paloma Navarro Ramón  (Almería), with ‘Sensory’, José Gabriel Muñoz Arco (Almería) with the ‘Praxilias’ collection, María Isabel Fajardo Arjona and Roberto Caro Maldonado (Granada), with the collection ‘419’, and Juan Carlos Hernández Alegría (Tenerife) with the ‘Spectrum’ collection.

The jury responsible for the selection of the five finalists from the 21 proposals presented is formed by Juan Carlos Armas (designer), José Eugenio Sánchez Giuseppe (manager  of Tenerife Moda), Ricardo Cólogan (manager of the Insular Company Craft), Francisco Olivas (head of textile division of the Vocational Training Centre of Las Indias), Juan Castañeda (stylist), Cristina Hernandez (director of digital magazine ‘Más que tendencias’), Yeray Carquero (stylist), Ana Albendín (journalist), Aarón Darias (footballer and fashion blogger), Jorge Juan García-Padrón Pérez  (manager of Autos Insulares Citröen), Lucas Balboa (designer), Samuel Cabrera (designer and co-founder of Tenerife Design Festival), Armando Pinedo (Director of Communications of CIO Group) Monica Ledesma (journalist), Daniel Pagés (designer), Rubén Gonzalez (photographer and stylist), Waldemar Lemanczyk (spokesman of Tenerife DI-CA), and Isabel Méndez (secretary of the jury).

The Counselor of Employment, Economic Development and External Efrain Medina, said in his speech that “this contest has become a must for young designers in Spain” noting that “we provide the support  to the winners in the whole process so they can make their models reality.”

Efraín Medina also announced that the Tenerife III Days of Professionals of Fashion , where the Young Designers Contest from 16 to April 19 falls, will feature more than 60 showcases, all representatives of Tenerife Moda.

In this sense, the manager of Tenerife Moda, José Eugenio Sánchez Giuseppe recalled that in the context of the twentieth anniversary of this program, it has generated 14 million euros and 590 jobs.

It should be noted that each of the candidates presented its collection, of free choice, under a pseudonym composed of twelve models. The overview picked up the sketch with all the features of modeling, colored flags, the proposal for fashion and textiles, measures to scale.

A first prize of 3,000 euros, a second prize of 2,000 euros, and the promoters of each selected collection will receive a diploma or a credential trophy.

III Tenerife Moda Days of Fashion.

The Cabildo Fairgrounds hosts from 17 to 19 April the Tenerife III Days of Fashion, with the participation of 100 companies.

Coinciding with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the launch of the program Tenerife Moda, the Department of Economic Development, Trade and Employment of the Council has proposed converting Tenerife into an Island Fashion. This department leads the macro event, which will be of national and international claim, where disciplines as diverse as Rosetta and current expressions of urban art will come together. Similarly, it will be the first time for those brands and designers who do not belong to the Tenerife Moda collective.

The sessions are aimed at brands, fashion companies, designers, professionals in the textile sector in general, independent designers, design firms, advertising and art, alternative shops, and men and women between 16 and 60 interested in fashion and art.

During the days of conclusion of the conference, the fairgrounds will be divided into two distinct areas: specific area (Tenerife Moda, Craft Space and Fashion Photography Space and Urban Tenerife), and common area (Catwalk, Media and Undertake).
