Tenerife- 10/08/2018. The Cabildo of Tenerife collaborates with the authorities and business associations of Madeira in the strategy to promote and internationalize the fashion sector. Given the experience of the island, developed through the Tenerife Moda program, the organizations of the Portuguese archipelago have strengthened their contacts with the insular institution in order to collaborate in this regard, said the economic vice president, Efraín Medina.

In this sense, the textile company Amarca, attached to the Tenerife Moda program, will travel to Madeira invited by the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Madeira, where it will participate in various business meetings in order to study its possible internationalization and develop the project ‘Bordar Madeira’ . It is an initiative that consists of the use of Madeira embroidery as raw material in the making of their next collection. Likewise, Madeira and Portuguese designers have shown interest in using the rosette and the fine drafts of Tenerife to enrich their collections.

This initiative is part of a future project that will be presented to a new call of the European Union and which aims to market the textile sector of the outermost regions of Europe and put it in value. Efrain Medina stressed that these actions offer “a great opportunity to reach the Portuguese market since the companies of Tenerife have acquired a quality beyond doubt”.

Between August 13 and 17, Sergio López and Itahisa García, designers of the firm Amarca, will travel to the Portuguese island to visit the Embroidery Institute of Madeira and meet with native craftsmen, firms and designers, to learn about the history and production of local embroidery, which will be included in their new collection. In addition, they will take advantage of the trip to present the event ‘Madeira Fashion’, integrated into the agenda of official events commemorating the 600th anniversary of the discovery of the island of Madeira, and to which the organization has invited especially after knowing its new collection, both in Tenerife, and in Madrid in the last Atelier Couture catwalk, where a delegation from Portugal was present.

This expedition, which is part of a collaborative process between the associations of young entrepreneurs of both territories, the Government of Madeira and the Tenerife City Council, will prepare the designers for a possible internationalization of their brand. With the signing of the agreements and the performance of the ‘Bordar Madeira’ project, they will also bet on the socioeconomic link between the islands.

The Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Tenerife applauds the work carried out by the Cabildo and its economic vice president, Efraín Medina, in projects such as Tenerife Moda or the International Fair. According to its highest representative, Airam Rodríguez, “these are the initiatives that allow establishing economic links with Macaronesian regions and providing opportunities for young entrepreneurs in Tenerife.”
