The artist Betsabé from Tenerife won the Young Designers Contest of Tenerife Moda in 2012 with a transgressive and sensual collection
In 2012, the Tenerife born artist Betsabé Borcha, with the collection ‘Siente los Veinte’, won the IV Young Designers Contest, organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife at La Recova Art Center.
Three were the finalists who presented their proposals on a catwalk on which 30 Canarian models paraded, directed by the designers Marcos Marrero and María Díaz (M & M) before more than 700 people. The then insular councilor of Economic Development, Trade and Employment, Efraín Medina, was in charge of delivering to the winner the 5.000 euros check that would allow the young designer to start her professional career.
The creations of the young designers were made known in the framework of a show dedicated to fashion in which light, sound, performance and audiovisuals were also protagonists. It is also worth highlighting the experience of the professionals of the Tenerife Moda Collective, who were in charge of styling and hairdressing under the direction of Frank’o, president of the Association of Hairdressers and Stylists of Tenerife.
In the course of this catwalk, the winner of the contest Betsabé Borcha presented her collection ‘Feel the Twenties’ inspired in the 20s with a particular current vision of the design of this era, where the designer wanted to preserve the elegance with black as a protagonist, not only for its elegance but for inspiring a time of clandestinity, cabaret and liberation. ‘Feel the Twenties’ was full of femininity, sensuality and elegance, without forgetting the delicacy, dressing a confident, contemporary, daring and very feminine woman.
Betsabé Borcha studied, at the time of the Competition, at the Fernando Estévez School of Art in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, after having done other design studies in Granada and in the former Dámaso Guardí Fashion School in Tenerife.
Betsabé remarks that the Council’s contest “was the great step that opened the doors to the professional world.” It was a clear breaking even point, of course. They gave me the opportunity to present my collection as I saw it and with the best means and professionals for it. I have a lot to thank the Contest.
The Tenerife designer presented her collection ‘Marie Antoinette’ on the runway of the VII Young Designers Contest, held in 2015, with designs that enhanced the golds
That same year she packed her bags with two of her collections, one with blacks and one with golds but following both her style, and moved to Madrid.
