10 Years of History of the Young Designers Contest of Tenerife Moda from the Cabildo
The designer Josep Jacobo Acosta (Barcelona), with the collection Folkkloria, was the winner of a contest in which four finalists chosen from 65 proposals, presented their collections on the catwalk.Acosta was born in Gran Canaria and there he trained in the world of fashion at the School of Design. When he finished his studies he went to the Peninsula, specifically to Barcelona, in search of a future as a designer. For ten years he has been working as a shop assistant in fashion stores, where he discovered that his passion was the creation.
The V edition of the Contest combined a staging with effects of light, sound, audiovisuals, performances and interactivity, with a lightness and naturalness worthy of the best haute couture catwalk. He also had the participation of Canarian models, under the artistic direction of Marcos Marrero and María Díaz (M & M), of the Tenerife Moda collective. In the same way, styling, hairdressing and makeup were carried out by Franko Peluqueros.
The young designer has declared that “being the winner of the Contest has been an unforgettable experience and an injection of positivism that has no comparison.
It has helped me a lot to launch my career as a designer. Having a prize of these characteristics greatly enriches the curriculum to the point of having more opportunities to access companies in the fashion sector and be named Creative Director in companies of international scope.
My career after winning the Contest has been very good. I have been lucky enough to continue in the Fashion world working for different companies, both French and Italian, in the creative department and directing different areas within them (design of collections and creative of feminine, masculine and accessories trends, direction of window dressing and Visual Merchandising, creation of Showrooms, direction of looks for product photography in Shop online, direction of catalogs of collections, monitoring and control of production prototypes, creation of Moodboards, etc.).
I am currently very focused on the training process to dedicate myself to the world of Haute Couture, which is what I am really passionate about in the fashion sector. I have taken courses and Master Classes with the best embroiderers in the sector (artisans who have worked directly with the great haute couture houses in Paris). Courses of Moulage and Tailoring that are essential base to acquire the necessary knowledge.
